What gets in the way

Three problems, and the tool for each

  1. Closed and disconnected networks

A tool that needs a cloud service, or sends data home, does not fit a closed network.

The answerTrust CenterHashing, decrypting and lookups never use the network. The only request is an optional update check.
  2. Software you can check before it runs

Every program brought onto a system has to be checked first.

The answerVerify a downloadEach installer and app is Authenticode-signed, and every file has a published SHA-256 to compare.
  3. Large evidence sets

Re-checking a full extraction should not mean copying it somewhere else first.

The answerDEVI ValidateReads each file in 1 MiB pieces, so a large image never has to fit in memory, and opens it read-only.

Plain about the limits

What DEVI does not claim

Every tool states what it does and what it does not do, so the record holds up when someone asks.

For this work
  • No FedRAMP authorization or other government certification is claimed.
  • DEVI is designed to meet CJIS Security Policy requirements. It is not certified, and no such certification exists.
